28th Year Anniversary
Posted: October 7, 2016
This week marks the 28th year that I have been in business. As many of you know, I purchased the newsletter from Modern Communications, the parent company of WIAL-FM and WEAQ-AM radio in Eau Claire. On Oct. 5th, 1988. Never did I think a kid from Lake Villa, IL, would end up meeting so many great people and be in business for himself 28 years later.
When I purchased The Bottom Line, it was six-page weekly publication that had about 400 subscribers. Today, the newsletter has more than 900 subscribers for both the print and online versions, is 18 pages in length and read by more than 15,000 business people each week.
By far, the most important changes I have made over the years was to add the online edition and establish this editorial. About 11 years ago, I challenged myself and wanted to let the readers get to more about me by writing this weekly column. Based on the number of e-mail messages I receive (both positive and negative), I am guessing that readers like this editorial as well.
Creating the online publication took time and was also a challenge, but the work was worthwhile. Today, The Bottom Line has more than 40 online-only subscribers who sent us their e-mail (user name) and zip code (password) to: firstname.lastname@example.org so they can access The Bottom Line website (tblnet.com) and read the online version of the publication.
Many changes have taken place since I purchased The Bottom Line. We didn't have the North Crossing in Eau Claire, nor the Highway 53 Freeway. Businesses have come and gone, some with more fanfare than others. And industrial parks were created to foster growth in the manufacturing sectors. Likewise, River Prairie Development in Altoona was just a pipe dream.
However, with all of the changes that have taken place since 1988, I have always considered the Chippewa Valley home. I am not sure if I will be doing this another 28 years, but it has been a great ride so far. Thank you to all of the who have been a part of my world since May 1987. I could not do this without all of your help.
RANDOM THOUGHT #1: I will be so happy when the numerous e-mails I receive will stop after this election year. I receive at least 10 e-mails each week from some guy called Ofirah Yheskel, who mainly bashes Donald Trump in the race for the White House. I can't wait until it's over.
