Boxx Sanitation to build transfer station
Boxx Sanitation, a local refuse hauler that was established nearly two years ago, is in the process of developing a transfer station at a parcel it recently acquired at 3010 Mondovi Rd., Eau Claire.
"We'll probably be in the new location by early December with the transfer station opening by the end of December or early January," said President Josh Boxx, who owns the business with his wife, Heidi.
The $100,000, 10,000-square-foot transfer station will accept residential and commercial waste from other haulers as well as the general public.
"This allows us to expand our business model. We'll bring in our garbage trucks and serve as a one-stop shop for the public. So, instead of going to the Sevenmile Creek Landfill, people can bring their trash and recyclables to our transfer station," said Boxx, who added, "People won't have to sort trash and my guess is that we'll be cheaper than Veolia at Sevenmile Creek".
Boxx Sanitation, which currently has six employees, provides residential and commercial waste hauling service to Altoona and Eau Claire. The company recently received approval to expand into the Village of Lake Hallie.
"We'll be adding some more employees in the future, but I'm not sure yet how many we'll hire." said Boxx.
The Mondovi Road facility, which was previously occupied by Northwest Truck Body Shop, was purchased from Horizon Investments Inc. Wayne Peters of Peters Real Estate handled the land and building sale. TBL
