Woodman’s to open new store in September

Construction of the new 240,000-square-foot Woodman's Grocery Store in the River Prairie development in Altoona should be completed by September 1, 2015, according to Clint Woodman, vice president of operations for the family-owned grocery store chain.
"Right now, we're hoping for September 1st. We're waiting for the City of Altoona to complete the infrastructure, but that is our target date for opening," said Woodman, who added that the new store will employ about 215 people.
Janesville, WI-based Woodman's Food Market Inc., which acquired the 40.25-acre parcel in the southwest quadrant of River Prairie from Weiss Commercial Real Estate last September, has 15 other stores throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.
According to Woodman's Vice President of Real Estate Brett Backus, there are several outlots available for sale to other businesses that may wish to locate in the River Prairie development.
"Like many of our other developments, the vision is that the outlots will attract quick service restaurants, sit-down casual dining establishments or convenience retailers and regional retailers that can thrive on the all of the traffic that is attracted to the area," said Backus, who added that Woodman's will also be opening a gas/convenience store operation next to the grocery store.
Woodman's, which was established in 1921, opened its newest store in Waukesha, WI, last fall. The new store in Altoona will include 150,000 square feet of retail space and about 90,000 square feet of warehousing.TBL
