Former Huebsch Services building to be renovated

The City of Eau Claire Parks & Waterways Commission this week is to act on a proposal filed by Cigan Properties to renovate the former Huebsch Services laundry building at 101 N. Dewey Street into a restaurant and lounge, along with apartments on the top two floors of the complex. (The commission addressed the issue Wednesday night, after The Bottom Line deadline).
"We are planning a (100-seat) restaurant on the first floor and nine one-and-two-bedroom apartments on the top two floors. We've already received inquiries about the apartments and I'm confident the restaurant will happen pretty fast," said Cigan Properties President Jack Kaiser.
In addition, the lower level would feature banquet facilities and a 40-seat lounge and bar. The restaurant would offer a deck overlooking the Chippewa River, according to Kaiser.
"We plan to have vacant space on the main floor. All of the apartments will have hardwood floors," said Kaiser.
The building, which was acquired by Cigan Properties in 2002 after Huebsch Services moved to the north side of Eau Claire, is located on a 2.9-acre parcel.
If the Parks & Waterways Commission approves the plan, the issue will be presented to the City of Eau Claire Plan Commission at its August 3rd meeting.
Kaiser said he did not wish to reveal the estimated cost of the project, however the building will need new plumbing and wiring as well as a new roof.
