TBL has learned that Gordy's County Market in Lake Wissota, 17158 County Trunk J, Chippewa Falls, will begin a major renovation of the grocery store and gas/convenience store after the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
According to Owner Gordy Shafer, who has been in the grocery business since 1966 and built the Lake Wissota store in 1969, the $4 million project will involve demolition of the existing structure and rebuilding a brand new grocery store, liquor and delicatessen area and produce department.
"We plan to knock down the existing building and possibly have space for some tenants to rent next to the store. The project itself, including the gas and convenience store is about $3 million, but we plan to purchase about another $1 million in equipment," said Shafer, who is also in the process of an 8,000-square-foot expansion of the Gordy's County Market store in the Birch Street Plaza in Eau Claire.
The Shafer family, which owns the Gordy's County Market in downtown Chippewa Falls, also owns two Gordy's True Value Hardware stores in Chippewa Falls, as well as gas and convenience stores in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire. The company employs more than 100 people throughout its business operations.
LaCrosse,WI-based TCI Inc. is the general contractor for the Lake Wissota project, which is expected to be completed by late November or early December. Other sub-contractors include: Wiersgalla Plumbing, Roshell Electric, R&R Excavation and Hovlands Inc. TBL
