Oakleaf to begin work on new surgery center
Posted: July 15, 2011
Work is scheduled to begin soon on a new 64,000-square-foot addition to the Oakleaf Surgery Center, part of the Oakleaf Medical Network, at 3802 W. Oakwood Mall Drive in Eau Claire.
As was first reported in the March 4, 2011, issue of The Bottom Line, the expansion will replace the existing surgical hospital and will be developed to the southwest of the current center.
According to Mike Staheli, vice president of operations for Chicago-based National Surgical Hospitals Inc., construction on the multi-million-dollar project is slated to begin later this summer.
National Surgical Hospitals Inc. specializes in the ownership, operation, development and management of surgical hospitals and surgery centers in partnership with physicians across the country. The company, which was founded in 1998, owns and operates 14 surgical hospitals, including Oakleaf, and seven ambulatory surgery centers in 10 states.
In January, 2011, Irving Place Capital, a private equity firm, agreed to purchase National Surgical Hospitals from Ferrer Freeman & Co., Charlesbank Capital Partners and JP Morgan Asset Management. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Oakleaf Surgical Hospital, which was established in 2001 by a group of independent physicians, now has 60 surgeons providing elective procedures in 15 specialty areas. Market & Johnson Inc. is the general contractor for the expansion project, which is slated for completion sometime in late 2012. TBL
