The Menomonie City Council last week approved a resolution to grant the city's reserve liquor license to allow the Red Cedar Brewing Company to open Das Bierhaus, a German brewing operation at 602 2nd Street West.
According to Chief Executive Officer Leon Dexter Quale of Glenwood City, who recently retired after working for more than 40 years in the health care industry, the business is expected to be open by early September.
"We are doing some remodeling. We purchased the building from JC Electric," said Quale, who added, "This is not to be confused with a micro-brewery. We make German beer."
Robert Wilbur of Prairie Farm, who has been trained in Germany and received his beer master diploma from a German university in 1996, will be the brew master. Quale said the brewery will offer a full menu of German-style lagers and ales as well as some regional wines. In addition to the multiple lines of homemade brews, Quale said the business will also offer imported and domestic beer. Das Bierhaus will initially employ six people.
