Mega acquires land along South Hastings
TBL has learned that Mega Management Inc., the parent company of Mega Foods grocery stores and six area Mega Express Holiday gas/convenience stores, has purchased the property at 1319 South Hastings Way, Eau Claire, from Advanced Gas, LLC, through a sheriff's sale. The property was previously occupied by a BP gas/convenience store.
"We bought it because it will help our EastRidge Center operations with better access. We plan to take the building down and we took the tanks out and are awaiting the results of the tests to be sure there is no contamination," said Mega Chief Executive Officer Rick Lambrecht.
Mega Management acquired the neighboring Heritage Motel about four years ago. Lambrecht declined to elaborate on any other potential future land acquisitions.
"I can't talk about any other deals since we are in talks with some people already...but we plan to eventually either remodel our existing store or rebuild it," he said.
Mega Management oversees the operations of two Mega Foods Supermarkets in Eau Claire and one in Chippewa Falls, as well as the Eau Claire Mega Express Holiday gas/convenience stores at 6123 Truax Blvd., 1731 Brackett Ave., 2230 Birch St., 2806 Golf Rd., 2940 N. Clairemont Ave. and the store at 501 N. Bridge St., Chippewa Falls. TBL
