The City of Eau Claire Plan Commission this week approved a site plan for a 163,714-square-foot ground transport center for FedEx Ground. The new facility will be located across from the Nestle manufacturing facility on Prospect Drive in the Gateway Northwest Industrial Park.
According to Dave Nelson, an engineer with Madison, WI-based Ruedebusch Development and Construction, the new building will replace the 38,808-square-foot FedEx Ground current facility at 1945 Prairie Lane in Eau Claire.
"This project will take us into early next year. We would like get started next month and want to have it finished by spring, 2016," said Nelson, who added that the construction company has developed nearly 40 other similar projects for FedEx Ground.
The new building will be leased from 2016 Eau Claire, LLC, which is affiliated with the development company, according to Nelson. He said the value of the project will not be unveiled until the company applies for a building permit.
According to the site plan, the new FedEx Ground facility will have 272 parking stalls, including 41 spaces for company vans.TBL
