Last week's issue of The Bottom Line was the first week that my office manager, Tammy, and I, utilized the new Adobe InDesign software to produce the newsletter. Most subscribers would not have noticed, however there were a few glaring areas that should have been obvious to the casual reader.
For example, the classified ad section did not flow as evenly as Tammy and I would have liked. We apologize for the way that page appeared in print last week, but our ability to control the outcome of the published version is still a work in progress. Likewise, there were a few of my stories that seemed a bit scrunched in print. We are working out the kinks and will try to do a better job when we next use the Adobe product for one of our December issues.
This reminder: When submitting your subscription renewal form, plesae be sure to let us know your e-mail address. We'll be using your preferred e-mail address when we begin mailing the publication electronically sometime after the first of the year. I will be hiring an intern from the Chippewa Valley Technical College in early December who will be helping with the Microsoft Access software application and then inputting the subscriber base data, including e-mail addresses.
Governor Scott Walker has been in the news a lot lately. He launched his new book this week entitled, " Unintimidated: A Governor's Story and a Nation's Challenge". He was also interviewed in the November 10th edition of USA Today promoting his book and discussing his possible presidential aspirations versus Congressman Paul Ryan, also of Wisconsin. Whenever our governor gets this much attention, I can't help but think about my editorial two years ago when I predicted that Walker was more interested in running for a position higher than just being governor of the Badger State.
I have received a few phone numbers from business associates who used to be listed in my old cell phone that I still have not found. So if you want to be part of my new cell phone directory, please call me at: 715-379-4925. Or e-mail me at: email@example.com.
I remember when I tried to publish an issue during Thanksgiving week. I took great pride in making sure that The Bottom Line was delivered to subscribers the Friday after Thanksgiving so that the unfortunate employees who had to work that day were still able to read this newsletter. However, with the start of the gun-deer season and the shortened work week due to the holiday, I've decided that my journalistic pride is no longer a good reason to try to piece together an issue the last week of November. So there will be no issue of The Bottom Line next week, Nov. 29th. Have a great and safe holiday week.
