Media Coverage of National Stories

I have been disappointed with the media coverage of national stories because it seems like most of the headlines are negative and somewhat perverse. But, this week, there was the story about the recovery of the 33 miners trapped for more than two months who were all brought back alive. I don't know about you, but I shed a tear every time someone was uplifted to their family.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd rather hear about a rescue that has been in the works for weeks and has a happy ending as opposed to some NFL quarterback who allegedly texted sexual connotations to a former sideline reporter.

There are at least a half-dizen other stories that are not fun to read or hear about that have been the lead story over the past three months. In the meantime, we are all bombarded with negative news about personal issues or businesses that have failed. It gets a little overwhelming at times. So, I decided two weeks ago to take matters into my own hands.

I have spent much of the past 10 days golfing. There has never been a time since I have lived here that October has offered such beautiful weather. September was probably the most wet and cold I have ever experienced and this past two weeks has afforded those of us who like to golf or enjoy the outdoors to take advantage of our free time like no time in the recent past.

I know there are other business owners who have enjoyed the ideal weather conditions to take the opportunity to golf. I have seen you on the area links. This is not a bad thing, since most of us who enjoy golfing consider our season is complete by the end of September. But over the course of the last two weeks, we only had to find an excuse to take the day off and do something other than work.

RANDOM THOUGHT: I would like to establish an investment group that would get together once every month to discuss stocks. I don't have the time to run the spreadsheet necessary to organize the operation, but I will help structure the entity. Let me know if you would like to be involved. I have at least four other small business owners who would be interested in taking part. I think about 10-12 individuals would be the right number of participants to make it a worthwhile venture.
