Muskie Proppant signs with Northern Crossarm

Muskie Proppant, the sand company that was rejected by the City of Eau Claire in its efforts last month to secure a loading site on the north side of the city, has signed a contract with Northern Crossarm Co. to establish a rail loading site on the lumber company's property along Highway X in the Chippewa County Town of Wheaton. Northern Crossarm Co. serves as a supplier of lumber materials to builders.
"Our contract with them begins the first of December. They haven't told us when they will begin using our rail spur, but they're not intending to store any sand on-site. It will be put directly into a rail car," said Northern Crossarm Co. Owner Pat Bischel, who added that he contacted Muskie Proppant when they could not come to an agreement with the City of Eau Claire and neighbors living near the proposed rail site.
Muskie Proppant, which is owned by Wexford Capital, a hedge fund management company located on the East Coast, and Oklahoma City,OK-based Gulfport Energy, was awarded a conditional use permit from the City of Eau Claire in October, 2011, to operate a sand loading site along Anderson Drive. However, the city council voted 9-1 against the agreement and the company's permit for the land use expired at the end of October.
The Northern Crossarm property, which is located just west of the Chippewa Falls city limits, is properly zoned for its intended industrial use. However, Muskie Proppant must still receive approval from the Town of Wheaton Board for a commercial site plan. TBL
