Pet Food Plus owners acquire Hamilton Square

TBL has learned that Kirk and Stephanie Sorensen, who have owned Pet Food Plus, 3460 Mall Dr., Eau Claire, since 1999, will be purchasing the 29,000-square-foot Hamilton Square Plaza along East Hamilton Avenue in Eau Claire from Hamilton Square Partners, LLC, effective April 25th.
"It's got some great long-term tenants," said Kirk Sorensen, who stated that Pet Food Plus will eventually move into space previously occupied by Mill End Textiles.
"We're not pressured to move quickly because we still have a lease in our existing location. We're working with a company that specializes in project planning for pet retailers. It will be about a four to five month process to set the store and put 20 years of ideas on paper and translate that into an actual store. It will probably be six months until we have a retail store in place," he said.
Pet Food Plus was established by Norm Spooner in 1989. Spooner, who owned a number of area feed mills, sold a number of agriculture-related products. Since that time, Sorensen said the retail operation has become more diverse.
"We've grown tremendously over the past 20 years and the extra space will allow us to bring in more items in larger quantities. Many of my customers have been asking for years for the things that we will now be able to do," said Sorensen.
Pet Food Plus currently has eight to 10 employees, including five full-time workers. Sorensen said he expects to add new employees once the relocation and expansion is complete.
Current tenants in Hamilton Square Plaza include Floors 'n More, Tacos Juanita, Cornellier Chiropractic and Pak Mail. Dean Larsen of Acquisition Realty & Development handled the building sale.TBL
